The Master Gardener Volunteer Program
The Master Gardener Program was introduced in Portage County in 1991. Currently, there are over 100 certified Master Gardeners in the program and the new 2016 class trained an additional 10 volunteers.
Our Master Gardeners are involved in numerous community educational and outreach projects as well as providing answers to horticultural questions from county residents. In 2015, the Master Gardeners assisted over 1300 Portage County residents with garden, landscape & pest-related concerns. Master Gardeners volunteered over 1700 hours in the community.
The Horticultural Hotline, (330) 296.6432 X 21, is available from April 1st to October 31st each year. Each August, the Master Gardeners create a display booth at the Portage County Randolph Fair.
